Chapter Thirteen

GLENDA

I stare at Cillian as he sleeps, and I can’t believe he’s really in bed with me. I want to reach out and touch him, but that might wake him up, and I’m enjoying staring at him. He said he’s going to reach out to my parents to ask for my hand in marriage. They were the sweetest words I’ve ever heard. They might not be “I love you,” but they’re pretty dang close.

People might think it’s crazy that I already know I love Cillian, but I don’t care. These are the same people who arrange marriages. You’d think they’d understand it to some degree. I bet Cora would. It’s going to be nice having her as a mother-in-law. I don’t think many people get the luxury of saying that, but my mom isn’t the mother she used to be. Cora’s sweetness makes me miss the mom I used to have more than I already do.

Over time, she’s grown angry and bitter. I wish she’d leave my father, and I wish he’d leave her right back. I actually wonder if part of my mother’s growing bitterness and anger is really fear. All of her children are growing up and leaving home. Soon she really is going to be all alone in that house with a man she can’t stand to look at. As I stare at Cillian, I’ll never understand how someone would pick that for themselves.

I won’t. That’s why it really doesn’t matter to me if my parents deny Cillian’s request for my hand in marriage. It would make things a lot easier if they agreed, but in the end, I will marry him. Even if it means walking away from my family.

Besides, Cillian and I will be starting our own family soon anyway. I might still technically be a virgin, but Cillian has made it his mission to still try and get me pregnant. It would be nice if this could all go as smoothly with them as possible. My parents might be bitter, but they weren't always this way, and the truth is I still love them. Even when they’re crappy.

“Glenda.” Cillian groans my name in his sleep, and the arm that’s wrapped around me tightens.

My eyes drift lower to see the outline of his hard cock, and I lick my lips, wondering what he’d do if he woke up with it in my mouth. Turnabout is fair play. He’s already woken me up once that way tonight.

Ever so slowly, I start to move down his body, pulling the thin blanket with me. He went to sleep with loose-fitting boxers on, saying he didn’t trust himself in his sleep. He said if we were both naked he’d end up inside of me somehow. I didn’t see the problem with that, but on the flip side, it’s romantic that he wants to wait for our wedding night. There aren’t many men out there that would do that.

His arm absently reaches out when I’m out completely of his hold.
